Cartoon Network to go HD

Turner Broadcasting is to launch a high definition simulcast of Cartoon Network on Sky.
Launching on 14 September, Cartoon Network HD will be the first HD channel in the UK from the broadcaster behind childrens' channels Cartoon Network, Boomerang, Cartoonito and CN Too.

Ben 10: Ultimate Alien, Regular Show and Adventure Time are amongst the shows which will be brought to viewers in high definition.

Also available to watch in HD will be The Amazing World of Gumball,an animated sitcom which follows the misadventures of the Wattersons, a regular family in the irregular town of Elmore. The UK-produced series uses a unique combination of 2D and 3D animation with live-action backgrounds and will debut on Cartoon Network on 5 September.

Anthony Lukom, Vice President and General Manager, UK & Ireland at Turner Broadcasting said:
"The Amazing World of Gumball is a truly unique and visually groundbreaking series which blends 2D, 3D and live action and it demands to be seen in its original breathtaking HD format. We're thrilled that that this series and many more will be available in HD from this coming September."

Freesat reaches 2 million sales

Freesat has sold its 2 millionth unit, taking gross retail sales to nearly £1 billion since its launch in May 2008.

According to Freesat customer research, 47% of its customers have come from Sky households so far in 2011 and c.88,000 new homes were added in Q2 2011.

Freesat's Managing Director,Emma Scott, said: "We launched three years ago and in that short time have quickly established ourselves as a real challenger and genuine alternative to pay-TV. With five HD channels, access to the BBC and ITV Players, as well as Freesat+ all available subscription- free, we're giving customers a high quality service without a high price."

Freesat has also announced it will be launching its second generation of products and services in early 2012.
